The Korean Institute of Bridge and Structural Engineers (KIBSE) is a scientific and technical association dedicated to advancing bridge and structural engineering in Korea and contributing to the global engineering community. As a national hub of expertise, KIBSE brings together professionals from academia, industry, and government to strengthen national technical capabilities and foster innovation, while serving as an international gateway for knowledge exchange and cooperation.
KIBSE addresses all aspects of structural engineering, including the planning, design, construction, operation, monitoring, maintenance, rehabilitation, and lifecycle management of structures. Within this framework, “structures” broadly comprise bridges, buildings, and the full spectrum of civil engineering systems of all forms and material compositions. Recognizing the transition toward the era of smart construction, the Institute promotes the integration of advanced digital technologies, data-driven approaches, and innovative engineering practices, while placing strong emphasis on bridging research and practice through close academia–industry collaboration to shape a resilient and sustainable future for the built environment.
KIBSE has the following objectives:
-to promote academic and technical exchange with related societies and organizations both nationally and internationally
-to conduct research and investigations to advance bridge and structural engineering and disseminate the results
-to facilitate the exchange of information and the collection of technical data related to bridge and structural engineering
-to foster cooperation and mutual understanding with organizations sharing similar objectives and to undertake related activities in support of the Institute’s mission
KIBSE conducts the following activities in pursuit of its objectives:
• Organization of national and international conferences, symposia, and seminars
• Publication of the Society’s journal Bridge and Structural Engineering and the academic journal Journal of Structural Research and Practice
• Recognition of outstanding structures through an awards program
• Operation of programs supporting the development and engagement of young engineers
