Distinguished members, respected senior engineers, colleagues, and honored guests,
It is a profound honor to assume the presidency of the Korean Institute of Bridge and Structural Engineers (KIBSE). I am deeply grateful for your trust and accept this responsibility with both humility and a strong sense of commitment.
Since its founding, KIBSE has contributed to the advancement of academic research, the strengthening of engineering practice, and the expansion of international collaboration in the field of bridge and structural engineering. Today, however, we face unprecedented challenges—climate change, aging infrastructure, rapid digital transformation, and growing societal expectations. These realities call upon us not only to safeguard structural safety, but also to rethink how we design, construct, and sustain our infrastructure.
KIBSE must play a leading role in this transformation. Through rigorous research, the continuous advancement of the Korean bridge design codes, forward-looking professional education, and strong collaboration among industry, academia, research institutes, and government, we will further strengthen our role as a trusted authority in structural engineering.
During my term, I will focus on four key priorities: strengthening structural safety and resilience; advancing sustainable and digitally enabled engineering; expanding global cooperation, including closer engagement with IABSE; and nurturing the next generation of engineers.
Our mission extends beyond the construction of physical structures. We are also called to build resilience, sustainability, and public trust. With your continued support and active participation, KIBSE will further solidify its leadership both nationally and globally.
Let us move forward together with confidence and vision, strengthening KIBSE’s voice and leadership on the global stage.
